Critical Mobile Home Repair

The Critical Mobile Home Repair (CMHR) Project provides low-income seniors living in mobile homes on the West Slope of El Dorado County with the opportunity to make critical health and safety related repairs to their mobile homes that put them at risk of losing their housing.

In El Dorado County, more than 10% of our affordable housing stock consists of mobile homes; most are located in various mobile home parks or communities. In addition, roughly 40% of existing mobile homes were manufactured in 1977 or earlier (HED survey, 2023-2024). Given the average lifespan of a mobile home (30-50 years depending on manufacturing quality), these homes are overdue for replacement and many are beyond their useful life. At the very least, they’ll require significant repairs to remain safe and habitable.

This program allows for up to $2,000 towards health & safety related repairs: heat, hot water, entry steps, roof patches and more. Housing El Dorado will assist 12 senior households with the bid process, ensuring that the selected contractor has appropriate licensure and insurance for the job. After the repairs are completed and approved, we'll handle up to $2,000 in payment, direct to the contractor. Finally, Housing El Dorado will follow up with participating seniors, at 30-days and 90-days post project completion. This will enable HED to ascertain their housing status, but also ensure that seniors are connected with all available services to assist them in staying in their homes.
